Joey will check with Craige at Ellis Park for a date for a clean-up day…either February 9th or 16th.  Date will be posted!

Down Under Horsemanship (Clinton Anderson) has donated 50 tickets to our 4-H Program.  Dates are October 11 & 12 in Williamston, NC.  Tickets will be available in June or July.  We will need ideas for the fairest way to distribute the tickets.

It was suggested that we hold a horse education day to get the new members and the younger members, as well as new leaders and parents, introduced to Horse Quiz Bowl, Hippology, and Horse Judging.  This will be held during the Summer Fun Programs this summer.

Darrell Blackwelder is asking for pictures for newspaper articles about 4-H events.   We are also looking for members to go on the radio to talk about 4-H.  Radio channel is 1490 WSTP, and they also stream live on the internet.  Radio spots are Thursday mornings at 8:30 a.m.

Thomas Cobb, Extension Livestock Agent, will be having a meeting on the livestock opportunities for 4-H members on January 22nd at 7 p.m. at the Extension Office.

East Equine Explorers will be going to the Price of Freedom Museum on January 20th at 9 a.m. and have invited all members to attend.

Ann Furr, President of PALS (Parents, Alumni and Leaders Advisory Council) has personally extended an invitation to PALS for all the horse leaders and parents to come and learn about all that 4-H has to offer.  Please watch the newsletters for dates and times.

R.A.C.E. 4-H needs to work on by-laws.  The Executive Committee will work up a draft and will bring it to the next planning meeting for review.

Suzanne Weber began a discussion as to the safety of our horse shows.  It was discussed as to why adults are permitted to show.  Our mission statement explains that our goals include educating not only our 4-H youth, but adults as well.  Sara stated that only 9 adults showed at the April Show and only 13 at the October show.  We had approximately 30 4-H youth at each show.  It was also discussed that we limit our show only to 4-H members to reduce the number of trailers and people on the show grounds.   It was noted that with the 30 4-H youth.  It was also discussed that we need to keep the shows open to generate income to keep our clinics and events going.  We will get together with Craige about the possibility of additional space to park.

Ann Furr made mention of having a gaited only show at Ellis Park on May 10th.  No further discussion was had at this time.

The Year End Points system was discussed.  Some leaders and parents feel that the point system is unfair and do not wish to participate.  It was noted that no one MUST participate and the choice should be up to the individual.  The question was asked why District and State events were not on the chart.  It was answered that this was voted on at previous

meetings.  R.A.C.E. is a county level organization and it was decided that only county events will be on the chart.  It was noted that on the new chart Project Records were not included.  (Secretary Note:  There was an error in the chart posted on the Blog.  It has been fixed.  My apologies for the mix up.)

Meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Judi Ziegelhofer, Secretary
Rowan Advisory Council for Equestrian 4-H Clubs
